Toy Story 5 Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years since the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
The preview shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is what the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
